À Akureyri

or in Icelandic; Á Akureyri (pronounced differently, mind)

Temp: -9

Crew: 1

The stoplights in Akureyri are love heart shaped...

The girl who I car shared with said the council did it to lift the spirits of the townsfolk.

SHAZAAM! There's always hectic snow in the north. The fjord is frozen at its shore.

Rudimentary knowledge of Icelandic along with automatic word recognition allowed me to read this sign as: "Only for star people"

You can also get them with Snicker's bars rammed in at various positions and angles.

WARNING: when catching buses in rural Iceland, you're likely to be overcharged and dumped at the side of the road, like in 1950's America in the middle of cornfields. This happened to me here....

Whilst hauling myself and my suitcase through kilometers of snow to the ferry port, frantically attempting to ward off frostbitten fingers, I spotted my new home for the next two months!

The little strip of land on the extreme left of the photo.

Exposed to the minus 9 degree elements, waiting for the ferry. Due in 2.5 hours.

Until:

A fisherman rescued me!

The friendly fisherman can be spotted in the forklift through the window. The lights of Hrísey can also be spotted through the window.

Sanctuary smells like fish and has many, many pictures of men sailing boats and reaping the wealth of the arctic waters.

A portent of things to come perhaps.
